RIVER ROAD FIRE PROTECTION CONTRACT - THE RIVER ROAD WATER DISTRICT HAD PREVIOUSLY <br /> ~ <br /> ;C REQUESTED SERVICES OF A fiRE MARSHAL fROM THE CITY Of EUGENE OR REDUCTION IN THEIR <br /> CO fiRE PROTECTION CONTRACT TO ALLOW THEM TO HIRE THEIR OWN fiRE MARSHAL. AfTER CON- <br /> SIDERABLE DISCUSSION WITH BOARD MEMBERS, ATTORNEY AND ACCOUNTANT FOR THE DISTRICT, THE <br /> CITY MANAGER RECOMMENDED THE CITY SHOULD NOT fURNISH fiRE MARSHAL SERVICE BECAUSE: <br /> (I) THIS WAS A SERVICE REQUESTED BY THE PEOPLE OF THE DISTRICT BY ELECTION AND SHOULD <br /> e BE PAID FOR BY THE PEOPLE WHO RECEIVE THE SERVICE; (2 ) THE PEOPLE IN THE DISTRICT ARE <br /> GETTING fiRE PROTECTION FOR CONSIDERABLY LESS COST THAN THE PEOPLE I N THE CITY; ( 3) TO <br /> fURNISH THE INSPECTION SERVICE DESIRED WOULD INCREASE THE CITY'S COST APPROXIMATELY <br /> $2000 ANNUALLY; (4) IF THIS SERVICE WERE MADE AVAILABLE UNDER THE EXISTING CONTRACT, <br /> THE CITY WOULD BE OBLIGATED TO PROVIDE THE SAME SERVICE fOR OTHER DISTRICT WITH WHOM <br /> IT HAS CONTRACTS; AND (5) SINCE IT IS NECESSARY fOR THE DISTRICT TO HAVE A SPECIAL <br /> ELECTION TO MEET ITS CONTRACTUAL OBLIGATIONS WITH THE CITY, THERE IS NO REASON WHY <br /> IT COULD NOT ALSO PROVIDE ENOUGH fUNDS TO fiNANCE THE fiRE INSPECTION SERVICE. <br /> I MR. USES IN C-I ZONE, 6TH AND 7TH WEST Of BLAIR - COUNCILMAN MOLHOLM HAD PREVIOUSLY RE- <br /> QUESTED A SURVEY Of 6TH AND 7TH AVENUES WEST OF BLAIR BOULEVARD WITH THE IDEA OF <br /> BROADENING THE USES PERMITTED IN THE C-I ZONE. THE CITY MANAGER REPORTED A SURVEY <br /> HAD SHOWN ONLY 20% OF THE PROPERTY ZONED C-I IN THIS AREA IS NOW USED FOR COMMERCIAL <br /> PURPOSES. THE OTHER 80% IS RESIDENTIAL. HE ALSO STATED THERE ARE PROBABLY OTHER <br /> USES WHICH COULD BE PERMITTED IN THE C-I ZONE WHICH ARE COMPATIBLE WITH THOSE NOW <br /> LOCATED ALONG 6TH AND 7TH. HOWEVER, IT WAS HIS RECOMMENDATION THAT SHOULD THE COUNCI L <br /> WISH TO 'PURSUE THE MATTER FURTHER THE MATTER SHOULD BE REfERRED TO THE ZONING SUB- <br /> COMMITTEE OF THE PLANNING COMMISSION.
