PEARL STREET EXTENSION - THE PLANNING COMMISSION RECOMMENDED EXTENSION OF <br />PEARL STREET PROVIDING THE RIGHT-OF-WAY IS ADJUSTED EAST TO AVOID THE 27TH AND <br />HIGH INTERSECTION, A PLANTING BurrER IS ESTABLISHED BETWEEN THE rRONTAGE ROAD <br />AND THE NEW ROAD, AND A COMPREHENSIVE PLANTING PROGRAM IS ESTABLISHED AT THE <br />TIME Of CONSTRUCTION TO SCREEN THE PROPERTY ON THE WEST. A MAP OF THE PRO- <br />POSED EXTENSION WAS PRESENTED, AND THE CITY MANAGER POINTED OUT THE APPROXIMATE <br />LOCATION AND WIDTH OF THE PROPOSED STREET, BUFFER STRIP BETWEEN 27TH AND 24TH <br />ALLOWING FOR ACCESS TO PROPERTIES ALONG THE EAST SIDE, AND SCREEN PLANTING CON- <br />TINUING TO 30TH. A BICYCLE PATH WAS ALSO SUGGESTED ALONG THE EDGE OF THE ROAD- <br />WAY. IT WAS ALSO SUGGESTED PROPERTY OWNERS SHOULD BE NOTIFIED OF THE PROPOSED <br />CONSTRUCTION. MR. CHRISTENSEN MOVED SECONDED BY DR. PURDY TO APPROVE THE PLAN <br />IN PRINCIPLE AND THAT THE STArF CONFER WITH CENTURY OF PROGRESS FUND MANAGE- <br />MENT TO SECURE THEIR APPROVAL or THE PROPOSAL. RICHARD <br />OEHLER WERE RECOGNIZED, ALL SPEAKING IN OPPOSITION TO THE INSTALLATION OF THE PROPOSED PEARL <br />STREET EXTENSION. IT WAS SUGGESTED BY THESE PEOPLE THAT PERHAPS THE ROADWAY SHOULD HAVE <br />BEEN PLACED NEXT TO THE AMAZON, RUNNING MORE NEARLY DOWN THE CENTER OF THE PARK THAN WHERE <br />IT IS NOW PROPOSED. MR. BOB THOMAS or BIRCH LANE WAS APPARENTLY THE ONLY ONE SPEAKING IN <br />FAVOR Of THE PEARL STREET EXTENSION AS IT WAS LAID OUT. SINCE SEVERAL QUESTIONS HAD BEEN <br />RAISED CONCERNING THE LOCATION OF THE ROADWAY AND THE USE or THE PARK PROPERTY FOR THIS PUR- <br />POSE, DR. PURDY MOVED SECONDED BY MR.
