LEE BISHOP, APPOINTED TO REPORT ON THE fiNDINGS Of THE <br /> TEMPORARY COMMITTEE INVESTIGATING THE POSSIBILITY Of A MODERN AUDITORIUM <br /> fACILITY fOR THE CITY Of EUGENE, READ A LETTER WHICH STATED THEY HAD fOUND CON- <br /> SIDERABLE INTEREST IN THIS MOVEMENT AND INVITING SEVERAL ORGANIZATIONS TO BECOME <br /> MEMBERS Of A CENTRAL COMMITTEE. THE LETTER STATED A GENERAL MEETING WILL BE <br /> HELD OCTOBER 30, 1963 IN HARRIS HALL, AT WHICH TIME A 25-MEMBER CENTRAL COM- <br /> MITTEE WILL BE ELECTED. EDWIN ALLEN, <br /> e ATTORNEY REPRESENTING SOME PROPERTY OWNERS IN THE VIQNITY Of THE PROPOSED ZON- <br /> ING REQUEST, STATED THAT HE REPRESENTED APPROX'MATE~Y TEN OR TWELVE PROPERTY <br /> OWNERS AT THIS TIME AND STATED THAT HE fELT THERE WOULD BE CONSIDERABLY MORE <br /> PROPERTY OWNERS WHO OBJECTED TO THE REZONING BUT WHO HAD NOT BECOME ASSOCIATED <br /> WITH THE GROUP YET. THE CITY MANAGER PRESENTED AN ALTERNATIVE TO THE ORIGINAL <br /> REQUEST fOR A DECISION AT THIS TIME, STATING THAT THE COUNCIL COULD POSTPONE A <br /> DECISION PENDING fiLING AN ACCEPTABLE SITE PLAN, PROOf Of ABILITY TO DEVELOP <br /> THE PROPERTY, AND PROVIDING A BUffER SmRIP EITHER Of MULTIPLE fAMILY OR PARK <br /> LAND. MR. CHRISTENSEN THEN MOVED SECONDED BY MR. CRAKES TO GRANT THE REZONING. <br /> MOTION CARRIED, MR. SWANSON VOTING NO. <br /> MR. CHATT MOVED SECONDED BY MR. CRAKES THAT ITEM 3 Of THE COMMITTEE REPORT BE APPROVED. <br /> MR. EDWIN ALLEN, REPRESENTING APPROXIMATELY 15 PROPERTY OWNERS IN THE AREA, PRESENTED <br /> PETITIONS TOTALING APPROXIMATELY 126 PROPERTY OWNERS IN THE ADJACENT AREA WHO fELT <br /> THAT THE REQUEST fOR THE REZONING SHOULD BE DENIED. MR. ALLEN THEN POINTED OUT BY <br /> I MEANS Of TWO MAPS THE LOCATION Of THE PROPERTY OWNERS WHO WERE HIS CLIENTS AND WHO <br /> OBJECTED TO THE PROPOSED REZONING, AND ALSO SHOWED THE AREAS WHICH ',ARE NOW ZONED <br /> C-3P IN THE GENERAL AREA AS THE REQUESTED REZONING. MR. ALLEN POINTED OUT THAT <br /> ONCE THE C-3P ZONE IS ESTABLISHED, THE AREA COULD BE USED fOR ANY TYPE Of COMMERCIAL <br /> BUILDING AND ALSO HE STATED IT WAS HIS OPINION THAT THE NEED AND NECESSITY fOR THE <br /> SHOPPING CENTER HAD NOT BEEN ESTABLISHED.
