Leeson of 1083 Oakway Road stated that he also had talked <br />to a number of the people living on Oakway Road, and they had at one <br />time decided to offer six feet to the City for the widening of Oakway <br />and asked if the City would consider the offer of the six feet without <br />having to obtain additional property on the east side of Oakway. <br /> <br />On further discussion, the Council decided that perhaps they should <br />view the situation again, and Mr. Swanson moved seconded by Mr. Hawk <br />to hold this item for discussion at the next Thursday Committee meet- <br />ing. Motion carried. <br /> <br />Mrs. Lauris moved seconded by Mr. Chatt that Item 2 of the Committee report be approved. <br />Mot i on carr ied . <br /> <br />3. Community Health Program - Miss Tuck gave a graphic presentation by <br />charts of the work being done by the Community Health Council, and <br />passed out copies of their program and objectives to the members of <br />the Council Committee. At the conclusion of the presentation, Mrs. <br />Lauris thanked Miss Tuck for her presentation. <br /> <br />Mrs. Lauris moved seconded by Mr. Swanson to approve the idea of a community health <br />program. Motion carried. <br /> <br />4. TouriSt Scenic Route - Mr. Paul Lansdowne, representing the Tourist <br />Committee of the Chamber of Commerce, presented a map 6f the City of <br />Eugene showing a proposed scenic tour which had been developed in <br />the Chamber of Commerce committee with the assistance of the Eugene <br />City Traffic Engineer. Mr. Lansdowne stated that the Chamber Committee <br />is prepared to underwrite the cost of the materials to place the signs <br />along the proposed 20-mile route, and asked the Council if they would <br />approve the use of City crews to erect the signs and also for a mainte- <br />nance program on the signs after they were erected. Dr. Purdy moved <br />seconded by Mr. Chatt to approve the proposal of the Chamber of Com- <br />merce for the ins tallation of the signs and approve the use of City <br />crews for erection and maintenance. Motion carried." <br /> <br />Mrs. Lauris moved seconded by Mr. Chatt that Item 4 of the Committee report be approved. <br />Motion carried. <br /> <br />Items on February 6, 1964 Committee agenda not considered at that time: <br /> <br />1. Paving High, 39th to 40th - A petition was presented requesting the <br />paving of High Street from 39th to 40th Avenue.' <br /> <br />Mrs. Lauris moved seconded by Mr. Chatt to approve the paving,'pending the acquisition <br />of additional right-of-way as recommended by the Department of Public Works. Motion <br />carried. <br /> <br />2. Naming Park Site. Sheldon School Area - The Director of Parks & Recrea- <br />tion had requested a name for the joint park-school area adjacent to <br />Sheldon High School, and suggested the name of Meadow Lark Park for <br />approval by the Council. <br /> <br />Mrs. Lauris moved seconded by Mr. Chatt that the park be given the name "Sheldon <br />Meadow". Mot ion carried. ' <br /> <br />3. Correspondence - A letter was read from Mr. Arthur L. Thomas correcting <br />the implication he was against 'public phone' booths on the City's side- <br />walks, and also a letter from Portland Masonry Association commending <br />the City on the passage of a masonry ordinance. <br /> <br />The letters were received and placed on file. <br /> <br />2/10/64 - 9 <br /> <br />~ <br />
