<br />The regular meeting of the Common Council of the City of Eugene, Oregon was
<br />called to order in the Council Chamber at 7:30 p.m. on.April 13, 1964 by His Honor
<br />Mayor Edwin E. Cone with the following councilmen present: Mrs, Lauris, Messrs.
<br />Chatt, Swanson, Christensen, Deverell, Crakes, Haw~, anq Purdy,

<br />The invocation was given by ~atherHeidt, St. Mary's Catholi~ Church.
<br />
<br />The,minutes of the adjourned meeting held March 23, 1964, as mailed to members
<br />of the Gouncil',were approved.

<br />NEW BUSINESS
<br />
<br />'the City Manager read a letter from Mr .Mel Gordon, Multnomah County Commissioner,
<br />addressed to the Mayor of Eugene, asking contriQutions from the people of Eugene toward:
<br />a fund called "Dollars for Alaska". The letter stated that anyone wishing to contri-
<br />bute tq the fund should ,mail their contributions:to Mayor Cone, who would in turn for-
<br />ward the money to the central committee. The proposal had the general approval of the
<br />Council. Mr. Swanson asked a quest ion concerning the tax deduction possibilities of
<br />any con~ribution toward this fund and was informed that:as,a contribution it would be
<br />deductible.

<br />Councilman Swanson asked concerning the incidence qf traffic accidents at Grant
<br />and 9th Place, also 8th and Grant. The Traffic Engineer stated that a survey is being
<br />made of these two int~rse~tions and ,a report would be made at'a later date.,
<br />
<br />T4e,City Manager aQnounced that Mr.. Dave Hunter had:been.named chairman of the
<br />speakers' committee for promotion of the ba116t measures in the'May 15, 1964 election,
<br />Also, that there will be two briefing sessions,to beheld for the benefit otthese
<br />speakers on ~uesday and Wednesday evenings, April 14 and 15, in th~ basement of the
<br />Medical Center Building.

<br />This' being the date set for the coqsiderat ion of bids for ~he purchase. of a
<br />combination frontend,loader andc'backhoe, the,followtng tabulation of bids opened.on
