<br />The adjourned meeting of the Common Council,o~ t~eCity of Eugene,Oregon - ad-
<br />journed from the regular meeting held May 11, 1964 - was called to order in the Council
<br />Chamber at 7:30 p.m.PDT on May 25, 1964 by His-Honor Mayor Edwin E. Cone with the fol-
<br />lowing councilmen present: Mrs. Lauris, M~ssrs. Chatt, Swanson, Christensen, Deverell,
<br />Crakes, "and Purdy. Mr. Hawk was absent.

<br />Since the minutes of the regular meeting held May 11, 1964 were not, mailed to
<br />Council members, Mrs. Lauris moved seconded by Mr. Chatt to dispense with action on
<br />them. Motion carried.

<br />Mrs. Lauris moved seconded by Mr. Chatt to accept the canvass of votes as read. Motion
<br />carried.

<br />Councilman Swanson inquired whether the traffic situation at 29th and Willamette
<br />intersection and vicinity had been reviewed and whether any recommendation was ready
<br />to be made by the staff. The Traffic Engineer reported that the final tabulation of
<br />traffic count would be ready next week.
<br />

<br />Mr. Swanson also, stated that the ingersections of Chambers and 18th, Chambers and
<br />13th, Friendly and 18th, and Jefferson and 18th should be reviewed with the possibil-
<br />ity of establishing right-turn lanes at those points.

<br />Mr. Swanson also inquired' concerning the use of Electronic Data Processing equip-
<br />ment being purchased by Lane County by other governmental agencies. Also, that equip-
<br />ment being purchased by Eugene Wat,er & Electric Board being used by other governmental
<br />agencies.

<br />Mr. Swanson commented that the City of Eugene should take advantage of the pro-
<br />posal of a number of the businessment to form a group inthe downtown core area to work
<br />toward better parking an~ traffic situations. In this connection, Mr. Poticha ~ the
<br />Architects Association, said there is mctually more involved than parking in the down-
<br />town area. He asked the Council to again allow the architectural group to present
<br />their plan for total improvement of the downtown area. In this connection, Mr. Poticha
<br />was advised that perhaps his grou~ could present its project at the Thursday, May 28,
<br />1964, Committee meeting,

<br />Planning Commission Report - May 18, 1964
<br />,1. Variance to allow beauty shop in residence at 1507 Coburg Road, Armstrong
<br />(64-037) - The Council at its April 27, 1964 meeting had approved a variance,
<br />but the Planning Commission's recommendation was to deny it. Referred to a
<br />joint meeting of.tne Council and Planning Commission, the item was recommended
<br />to be tabled b~the Planning Commission.

<br />After some discussion by the Council, Mrs. Lauris moved seconded by Mr. Chatt to permit
<br />the variance as requested with one operator and that there be no signs. Motion car-
<br />ried, Mr. Christensen voting no.
