<br /> ~ <br /> 159 <br /> e <br /> 10/26/64 <br /> I <br /> Council Chamber <br /> Eugene, Oregon <br /> October 26, 1964 <br /> Meeting of the Common Council of the City of Eugene, Oregon - adjourned from an <br /> adjourned meeting held October 20, 1964 - was called to order at 7:30 p.m. on October <br /> 26, 1964 in the Council Chamber by Councilman John Chatt with the following council- <br /> men present: Messrs. Swanson, Christensen, Deverell, Hawk, and Purdy. Mayor Cone <br /> and Mrs. Lauris arrived later in the meeting. Mr. Crakes was absent. <br /> The invocation was given by Rev. Robert B: Dwight, St. Mary's Episcopal Church. <br /> e The minutes of the regular meeting held October 12, 1964 and the adjourned meet- <br /> ing held October 20, 1964, as mailed to members of the Council, were approved. <br /> NEW BUSINESS <br /> Council President Lauris arrived and assumed the Chair. <br /> 1 Mr. Christensen moved seconded by Dr. Purdy that the City Council go on record <br /> I as supporting School District No. 4 in its try for a broader tax base at the coming <br /> election on November 3, 1964. Motion carried, Mr. Swanson voting no. <br /> 2 Councilman Swanson raised the question with regard to the progress of construc- <br /> tion on Coburg Road, Oakway Road, and City View Street, asking if completion dates <br /> had been established. The Director of Public Works answered that Wednesday had been <br /> set (October 28, 1964) as the deadline on the completion of Coburg Road and Oakway <br /> Road construction work, and that the City View project is within contract time limits. <br /> 3 Councilwoman Lauris reported to the Council that the United Appeal Board had <br /> sanctioned the request of Buckley House for distribution of United Appeal funds dur- <br /> ing the coming year, one of the provisions being that the City continue its contri- <br /> bution to Buckley House. <br /> 4 Progress payments were submitted as follows: <br /> Chapman Bros. <br /> 3rd & Final - Airport and City Hall Furniture $ 601. 92 <br /> Llovds Home Trends <br /> 1st & Final - Airport and City Hall Furniture 1,009.01 <br /> . <br /> J. Gill <br /> I 1st & Final - Airport and City Hall Furniture 9,743.71 <br /> Richard Clark <br /> Final - Airport 1,058.65 <br /> Mr. Chatt moved seconded by Mr. Swanson that the progress payments be allowed and proper <br /> City officials authorized to draw the necessary warrants. Rollcall vote. All council- <br /> men present voting aye, motion carried. <br /> e 5 The City Manager presented a map and plan showing the Oregon State Highway Com- <br /> mission's proposed Oakhill-Interstate 105 section of the Map1eton-Eugene highway and <br /> its relation to the Washington-Jefferson bridge. After discussion by the Council, <br /> Mr. Chatt moved seconded by Mr. Swanson to give tentative approval to the proposed <br /> plan, asking the staff to negotiate for a parallel road on the north side of the pro- <br /> posed right-of-way for park access. Motion carried. <br /> 6 Mrs. Lauris announced the following appointments made by Mayor Cone to the Human <br /> Rights 'Commission: <br /> l-year term ending January 1, 1966 - Mrs. John P.
