<br /> have cost the Ci,ty $6~50 for this removal, work. ,Th,e letter. also stated
<br /> that the Superintendent of Bu~Jding Inspection would not approve the
<br /> relocation of the structures in a resiaential area because'of their
<br /> substandard construction. The Fire Chief had stated that the 'FIre ,De-
<br /> partment would burn these buildings for: recruit train'ing., Mr. Chat't
<br /> moved seconded by Mrs. Lauris to giv'e the Fire Departmen't' permissi"on to e

<br />2 2. Off-Street Parking District - Councilman Hawk, chairman of the Mayor's
<br /> Downtown Study Committee, briefly stated the progress of th~ proposal
<br /> for formation of an off-street parking' as'sessment district to this' date,
<br /> 'and asked the Council ~ember~ if they wished to discuss any points of
<br /> the proposal which they felt should be' included or deleted. . Councilman I
<br /> Purdy stated he felt the res~nsibility of the City for the maintenance
<br /> . items: should be, remove~ from the. proposal or be more explicitIY defined.
<br /> 'Study Committee member Frank Shearer stated that it was his opinion the
<br /> Study Commit~ee should d~scuss ~a~nt~n~~ce, policing, taxes, and light-
<br /> ing of the lots ~nd struc~ures, a~d that a: firm r~co~endation should ,be
<br /> made to the Council on these four it~ms. Th~ qu~~tion was also raised
<br /> with regard to the i~clusion of the C-3P zoned :areas within the boundary

<br />3 3. Municipal Golf Course:- Mayor 'Cone annou~ced that the Municipal Golf
<br /> Course Committee:h~d:receive~ word frqm the Housing and Home Finance
<br /> Agency that the Federal government might provide one-third of the annual
<br /> payment for the: ~cqu~~ition o~ C!-- golf, course, but :would, not advance: one-_
<br /> third of the total amount in a lu~p, sum.
<br />4 4. Parking and Travel Lanes. 11th Avenue from High~o Olive: The Public
<br /> Works Department presented two alternative plans for proposed parking
<br /> and ,travel lar:tes.on ~lth Avenue .fro1!l High ~treet to ,OUve Street. .After
<br /> reviewing the proP9se~plans,-.Dr:. Purdy mov~d seconded by Mr. Chatt to
<br /> approve Plan A, with six spaces -to be removed from the north side of I
<br /> 11th Avenue just we~t o~ Wi11amet.~e ~treet, and thre.e, spaces :to be. re-,
<br /> moved from the.south side of ~lth Avenue:eas~ of Willamette Street. Motion
<br /> carried.

<br />6 2. Bids - Bethel-Danebo Ptiniping--Station.- A letter was read from S. LaMont
<br /> Matthews, project engineer for Cornell, Howland, Hayes, and MerryfieJd,
<br /> concerning the u'se of 'a used': engine' and: :generator in the 'Bethel-Da.nebo .
<br /> pumping station. He stated he had investigated with the State sur~i~s
<br /> property agency and had contacted equipment suppliers in San Francisco,
<br /> Portland, and Seattle, and on the basis of the investigation recommended I
<br /> the purchase of new equipment in the best interest of the City. Mr:, ?wan-
<br /> son moved seconded by Dr. Purdy not to purchase u:sedengineand gen'erator
<br /> for 'use in the construction of the pumping station. Motion carried.
