<br />The regular meeting of the Common Council of the city of Eugene, Oregon was called to order at
<br />7:30 p.m. in the Council Chamber on April 12, 1965 by His Honor Mayor Edwin E. Cone with the follow-
<br />ing councilmen present; Mr. Chatt, Mrs. Lauris,'Messrs. Crakes,- Hawk, Purdy, McNutt, And~rson, and
<br />Lassen.

<br />Minutes of the adjourned meeting held March 29, 1965, as mailed to members of the Council, were
<br />appr0ved.

<br />Proclamation - Canvass of votes cast in Acorn Park area on April 6, 1965 concerning ?nnexation
<br />of the area to the city: of Eugene was 'submitted and read in full. Canvass of votes found'154 voting
<br />for annexation, and 141 voting against annexation, and the area was proclaimed annex~d. . . .

<br />Dr. Purdy moved seconded by Mr. Chatt to accept the prociamation. Motion carried~

<br />A memo from the city recorder was read stating that 3,566 names had been'certified aS,legal
<br />registered voters on a petition for providing free fluorides for Eugene citizens which qualified
<br />the petition for referral to the voters. There were als? approximately 400 additional names on
<br />file which had not been checked by the electionsdepartment~

<br />Councilmen Crakes commented that 'July 6, 196Y, the date previously: set for a special election, would
<br />seem to .be an inopportune d,me to hold a special election. The' cit y manager read a letter from the
<br />Lane County Dental Society suggesting th~t a November date ~ould be better suited for this electwn.
<br />
<br />Mr. Bob Moulton, speaking for the Citizens Committee Against Fluoridation, stated that his group
<br />would like to see the election:held as quickly' as legall~ possible.
<br />
<br />After some further discussion; Mr. Anderson.moved seconded by ~r. McNutt to submit the fluoride
<br />question to the voters at the ne~t special election. Motion carried, Messrs. Crakes, Purdy, McNutt,
<br />and Anderson and Mayor Cone voting yes; Mr~ that~; ~rs. Lauris, and Messrs. Hawk and Lassen voting no.

<br />Further disc~ssion on:the date for'the:sp~cial'election resulted in a motion by Mrs. Lauris seconded
<br />by Mr. Lassen to call a special election on September 28, 1965. Motion carried, Dr. Purdy'voting no.
