<br /> Committee meeting held November 18, 1965:

<br /> Manager; Assistant City Manager; Administrative Assistant; City Attorney; City
<br /> Recorder; Public Works Director; and others.
<br /> I 2 1. Union Pacific-Rock Island Merger - William Peebles, representing Southern Pacific Com-
<br /> pany, and Jack Atherton, representing Union Pacific, spoke regarding a proposed merger
<br /> of Union Pacific and Rock Island railroad companies, and a subsequent sale of a portion
<br /> of Rock Island southern properties to Southern Pacific. The proposal has been pre-
<br /> sented to the Interstate Commerce Commission, and the two railroads now seek the City
<br /> Council's support of the proposed merger and recommended adoption of a resolution to
<br /> that effect. Mr. Chatt moved seconded by Mr. Hawk to agree to approve a resolution if
<br /> e a study by the Chamber of Commerce indicates that the merger will benefit Eugene and
<br /> should be supported and receives the support of the Eugene Chamber of Commerce. Motion
<br /> carried.
<br /> 3 2. Vacation east/west alley between 23rd and 24th, Patterson and Hilyard, McKenzie Green
<br /> (Rubenstein) - The Public Works Department had investigated the request for vacation of
<br /> this alley and reported a fair market value of '50~ per square foot based on records in
<br /> the Lane County Assessor's office. Also, the City has spent $129.58 for paving and
<br /> sidewalks adjacent to the alley, which should be recovered. The City Manager read a
<br /> letter from McKenzie-Green which offered $300 plus the $129.58 street and sidewalk
<br /> assessments for the property. Dr. Purdy moved seconded by Mr. Crakes to maintain the
<br /> established policy for setting value of vacated land, and vacate the alley on payment
<br /> of $1120 (50~ per sq. ft.) plus the $129.58 assessments. Motion carried.
<br /> 4 3. Sewer. Area west of Henderson south of Interstate 5. Weaver - James Weaver of Freeway
<br /> Investments Co. requested sewer service to a building project on Henderson Avenue south
<br /> I of Interstate 5. He also asked that the sewer construction be done on private contract.
<br /> The Public Works Department recommended an agreement between the City and Freeway In-
<br /> vestments covering conditions of the sewer construction, with the City doing the
<br /> engineering work. Mr. Chatt moved seconded by Dr. Purdy to tentatively approve sewer
<br /> service requested, subject to execution of an agreement as recommended. Motion carried.
<br /> Mrs. Lauris moved seconded by Mr. C'rakes the Items 1, 2, and 3 of the Committee report be approved.
