<br />5 2. Laurelwood Supper Club Closing'Hours - A letter was read from Hale Thompson, attorney,
<br />requesting that the Laurelwood'Club be granted a 2:30 a.m. closing time for the opera-
<br />tion of their Club facilities-. In 1960, residents' of the area complained of excessive
<br />noise originating from the Club's parking lot between 1:00 a.m. and 3:00 a.m. At that
<br />time the City Council recommended that the State Liquor Commission change the closing
<br />time from 2:30 a.m. to 1:00 a.m., which was accepted and placed.into erfect. The
<br />police department and Sheriff's office report no complaints for disturbance-since -the-
<br />City and the present ~ess~e too~ over the operation' in February 1966. Mr. Anderson'
<br />moved seconded by Mr. uChatt that the Council recommend to the State Liquor Control I'
<br />Commission that the Club be, granted a 2: 30 a.m. :Closing time on Fridays and Saturdays
<br />for a trial period of six months, with special banquets to be handled on a perm1ssion
<br />only basis, and further that these changes could be cancelled at any time during the '
<br />trial period. Motion carried, Mr. Crakes voting no. _

<br />John Morgan, 1995 East 27th Avenue, presented a petition with 30 signatures opposing a change of the
<br />closing hours of the Laurelwood Supper'Cl~b. Mr. Morgan stated that in his opinion the School Dis-
<br />trict should not own property where there, isa bar, and the City should not be in the position of
<br />leasing a'bar, thereb~,en~~u!ag~ng people to~dr~n~:, ~

<br />Russell Doran, Jr., lessee of the-Laurelwood Club, asked to be given a chance to prove that the Club
<br />can be operated with later closing hours on Fridays and Saturdays without creating disturbances,

<br />ment regarding a revised design for widening 6th and 7th Avenues based on a 46-foot
<br />width with complete resurfacing'at an estimated cost of $425,000, of which Eugene's.
<br />share is $106,250. The City Manager commented,that it seems undesirable to spend '
<br />this amount of'money at the'present time whenlt is not known-whether this plan will

<br />Avenue between Olive and Oak Streets. Motion carried.
