Naming Amazon Softball Field, Moore Field - Mr. Chatt.moved seconded by Mrs. Lauris <br /> to name the softball field at Amazon Park "Moore Field" in honor of Jack Moore, e <br /> and to appoint a, committee to name ~uture park installations. Motion carri~d. <br /> Mr. Anderson commented that William Tugman should be so h9nored because of his ef- <br /> forts in development of the Centu~y of Progress Fund which made purchase of Amazon <br /> Park possible. <br /> 3 15. Ground Bark Rates - A letter was read from James E. Singleton, director of transporta- <br /> tion for the Pubtic Utility Commission~ concerning a reduction in carload rates for- I <br /> shipment of gr9und ~ark, and congratulating the personnel of the Eugene Air Quality <br /> Control,Department for their efforts in securing the reduction. <br /> 4 16. Hendricks Park - A letter was read from Banks Upshaw pointing out that property <br /> owners along Madrona Drive are encroaching upon park property by using some of the <br /> park fo~ beds of plants,. childrens' play equipment, a golf driving ,practice tent,etc. <br /> It was reported that Parks Department personnel will investigate. <br /> . , <br /> 5 17. Scenic Drive - A letter'was read from Emilie Cornac of Sa9 Jqse, California express- <br /> ing appreciat~on for the scenic route dtiv~ in Hendricks Park. <br /> 6 18. NBC Special Program on Crime ~ A letter from the National Broadcasting Company was <br /> - read announcing a 3~-hour program "Americ~m White Paper: Organized Crime in the <br /> United States" on Thursday, August ?5, 1966 at 7:30-+1:00 p.m. '("; ~..'q <br /> , . <br /> 7 19. Air Pollution - Councilm~n Anderson suggested that a.m~eting be held soon for the <br /> p~rpose of preparing a resolution concerning control o~ air pollution to be sent to <br /> the State Sanitary Authority. Dr. Purdy commented that controls should be Federal <br /> as well as State. I' <br /> Mr. Anderson moved seconded by Mr. Crakes to approve the resolution and direct that copies be sent <br /> to the proper legislative agencies and legislators. Motion carried. <br /> Councilman Lassen asked if trash burning in the City could be stopped. I~ was explained that trash <br /> burning is allowed only on a permit basis, and that an Fordinance is being prepared to prohibit all <br /> burning in outdoor incinerators. <br /> ORDINANCES e <br /> 8 Council Bill No. 7713.- Dispensing with election in City concerning annexation of area on VanDuyn <br /> Street between Sisters View and Westward Ho (Jackson) was submitted and read in full. <br /> Mr. Chatt moved seconded by Mr. Crakes that the bill be read the second time by council bill number <br /> only, with unanimous consent of , the Council.
