<br /> a. Commendation, Police Department - Councilwoman Hayward said she received a telephone
<br /> call from Fred Mohr, president of the American Civil Liberties Union, commending the
<br /> members of the Eugene Police Department for the manner in which they conducted them-
<br /> selves during the draft resistance demonstration on October 15.
<br /> 3 b. Legislature/Council, Wingard - Councilman Wingard said he would retain his position
<br /> on the Council after the election if he is elected to the State Legislature. He
<br /> said he felt he could do justice to both jobs, serving both the City and this dis-
<br /> trict in the Legislature on a high level.
<br /> 4 2. Greetings from Council President, Baulkham Hills Shire Council, New South Wales - A
<br /> letter was presented as received from a member of a team of Rotarians visiting this
<br /> '. Rotary District in return for a visit made to New South Wales by local Rotarians a
<br /> few years ago. Mr. Fred Elliott, city finance officer from Blue Mountain Shire, was
<br /> , introduced and briefly described the local governmental operations in his Shire as
<br /> compared to Eugene.
<br /> 5 3. Traffic Engineer, Williams - The City Manager introduced Mr. Al Williams, new traffic
<br /> engineer for the city of Eugene.
<br /> 6 4. Payment in Lieu of Taxes, Lane County Housing Authority - A check in the amount of
<br /> $6,332.25 was presented from Lane County Housing Authority for payment inlieu of
<br /> taxes on properties under their management in Eugene. It was noted that tax returns
<br /> . to the City on these properties when they were in private ownership amount to $2,315.00.
