Appointments, Budget Committee - Councilman McDonald recommended appointment of Wyman <br />Hammer, 3279 West 15th Avenue, as a member of the Budget Committee for the term ending <br />December 31, 1971. Councilwoman Hayward recommended appointment of Eleanor Herbert <br />(Mrs. Dan), 4450 Hilyard Street, for the term ending December 31, 1971. No action was <br />taken. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Mrs. Hayward moved seconded by Dr. Purdy that the Council approve the appointments as recommended <br />in the Committee report. . Motion carried. <br /> <br />Other items on the January 8, 1969 committee agenda not considered at that time: <br /> <br />2 <br /> <br />1. Jury Trials ,.. Municipal Court - The Council has received copies of a letter from the City <br />Attorney recommending that the State law which requires jury trials in municipal court be <br />repealed. <br /> <br />Mrs. Hayward moved seconded by Mr. Mohr that the City of Eugene request that necessary legislation <br />be prepared for presentation to the legislature for repeal of ORS 221349 which requires jury <br />trials in municipal courts. <br /> <br />Discussion followed concerning the practice in other states, and whether the entire court <br />system should be updated and modernized. <br /> <br />A vote was taken on the motion and the motion carried. <br /> <br />3 <br /> <br />2. Variance, Mobile Home, '.1790 Highway 99 North, Poole Mobile Home Sales - A previous variance <br />was granted by the Council which expires January 23, 1969. The Building Department rec- <br />commended that the variance be renewed, since all conditions have been complied with. <br /> <br />L <br /> <br />Mrs. Hayward seconded by Mr. Wingard moved that the recommendation be approved. Motion carried. <br /> <br />4 <br /> <br />3. Substitute "Stop" for "Yield" signs at 39th and Donald Streets - The Traffic Engineer <br />recommended substitution of "Stop" for rrYield" signs at the intersection of 39th and <br />Donald Streets. <br /> <br />Mrs. Hayward seconded by Dr. Purdy moved that the recommendation be approved. Motion carried. <br /> <br />5 <br /> <br />4. Repeal Resolutions 416 and 548, Parking Zones 6th and Taylor - The Traffic Engineer <br />recommended that Resolutions 416 and 548 providing for parking zones at 6th and Taylor <br />be repealed, since the postoffice is no longer in this location. <br /> <br />Mrs. Hayward moved seconded by Dr. Purdy that the recommendation be approved. ' Motion carried. <br /> <br />6 <br /> <br />5. Correspondence <br />a. 13th and Agate Report - The City Manager read a letter from the Traffic Engineer <br />recommending that the four way stop at 13th and Agate be retained, since it appears <br />that the situation has improved with this installation. ~;~-':-~~~~2 <br />,---::-'€. -__,_~-J <br /> <br />7 <br /> <br />b. Cable TV, Low Rent Housing - City Manager said a letter had been circulated to the <br />Council wherein Teleprompter stated they were investigating the possibility of <br />providing TV service to tenants of Lane County Housing Authority building. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />No action was taken. <br /> <br />No action was taken. <br /> <br />8 <br /> <br />6. Oversize Curb Cut, 18th and Oak, First National Bank - Public Works Department recommended <br />approval of a request by First National Bank for a 42 foot curb cut to replace two exist- <br />ing curb cuts at 18th and'Oak Streets. <br /> <br />Mrs. Hayward moved seconded by Dr. Purdy that the recommendation be approved. Motion carried. <br /> <br />9 <br /> <br />7. CLPCRepresentative - The City Manager explained a request from Central Lane Planning <br />Council for prompt action in appointment of a representative to Central Lane Planning <br />Council. <br /> <br />Mrs. Hayward moved seconded by Dr. Purdy' that Mayor Anderson be reappointed as representative to <br />Central Lane Planning Council. Motion carried. <br />
