January 5, 1971 Planning Commission Report <br />1. Zoning recommended (newly annexed area) Tax Lots 800, 900 and 1000 located on the <br />north side of River Avenue, east of River Road and south of Beltline Road. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />~-----_.- - <br />Pla~n~ng Co~~~!on recomm~~9~~the area designated as Parcel 5 on the Planning Commission <br />map be-zoned C-2 Community Commercial District with Site Review Procedure. <br /> <br />Planning Director pointed out the area to be rezoned on the map and explained the designa- <br />tion and its meaning. <br /> <br />There was no one present to speak either for or against this matter. <br /> <br />For formal action on Council Bill No. 9342 see Page <br /> <br />13 of these minutes. <br /> <br />2. Sign District Designation Recommended <br />a. Tax Lots 1100-1600, 1800, 1900, 2000, 2101, 2105, 2200, 2203,400, 1201, 1301, 1304, <br />1400-1402. <br /> <br />Due to conflict of interest, Acting Chairman Betty Niven was the only Commission <br />member present to act on the recommendation. <br /> <br />,^ <br /> <br />Highway Oriented Sign District - property fronting on River Road or within 200' <br /> <br />Outlying Commercial District - property more than 200' east or west of River <br />Road and not having River Road frontage. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />b. Tax Lots 800, 900 and 1000 <br /> <br />East of River Road and north of River Avenue <br /> <br />Outlying Commercial recommended by Commissioner Niven <br /> <br />Property recently annexed to City needing sign district designation. <br /> <br />e <br /> <br />Mr. Hal Cross, 172i'Santa Rosa, said he represented the Sign Industry, and they concurred with <br />the recommendation offhe Planning Commission. <br /> <br />Mr. John Tiffany, Tiffany Davis Drug, agreed with the recommendation of the Planning Commission. <br /> <br />Mr. Vernon Gleaves, representing Obie Sign Company said the northerly 100' along Beltline <br />which is classified outlying commercial should be classified highway oriented. He pointed out the <br />area he was concerned with, and suggested that this was a~heavily travelled highway, and bill- <br />boards should be allowed along it. He said other portions of the Beltline which are industrial <br />are classified highway oriented. <br /> <br />Mrs. Betty Niven pointed out to the Council that highway oriented district had <br />for those areas which are heavily used by the tourist type travelling public. <br />the beltline is generally used by persons residing in the area.
