Appeal from Planning Commission Decision - Charles Ogle proposed a planned unit _ <br /> II 6/23/71 development in the Chevy Chase area, which was denied by the Planning Commission. <br /> - <br /> Mr. Williams moved seconded by Mr. Hershner that the Charles Ogle appeal to the <br /> City Council be heard July 12, 1971. Request for Report - Councilman Mohr asked what the admlnistration strategy would be e <br /> 6/23/71 for assembling people who wanted to discuss mall use rules. He had suggested perhaps <br /> the Attorney's office would want to revise the rules regarding assembly with ACLU,' who <br /> had coi~~ted that they had some concerns. City Manager said the Assistant City Manager <br /> had written to the ACLU inviting them to suemit comments which would be discussed. No <br /> reply had as yet been received. <br /> Mr. Martin commented that just three people had contacted the office to take up the I <br /> invitation to participate in a committee to discuss mall dance problems. Six people <br /> expressed interest at the Council meeting and the staff inpends to contact them and invite <br /> them to a discussion or mall dance requirements. <br /> Ii Mrs. Beal suggested that the Mayor appoint a committee to review the mall rules to see <br /> I <br /> I whether changes were needed. Mrs. Beal said she had returned to the area after the dance was over and saw groups of <br /> young people sweeping the street and cleaning it up. file ,. <br /> " <br /> Mr. Mohr said that Item 2c had been put on the agenda at his request, and that he had simply <br /> asked for an administration report as to how they were proceeding with assembling those inter- <br /> ested in discussing the rules. He wanted to clarify that item. <br /> " <br /> , In answer to Mr. Mohr's question concerning progress with meeting those interested in mall <br /> :1 I, <br /> rules, the City Manager said the Parks Department had contacted those interested in a dance <br /> committee and a meeting date was set. With regard to the American Civil Liberties Union, <br /> I! correspondence had been addressed to them welcoming their comments and presentation of concern <br /> in writing to'the City Manager's office, with a subsequent meeting to consider any alternatives <br /> which might be suggested. No reply has been received at this time. <br /> Mr. Paul Bessler, 1044 1/2 West 8th, asked tha~ interested members of the community be allowed <br /> 'i to participate in discussion with the ACLU. ---- e <br /> The City Manager said he would be happy to contact Mr. Bessler when he had some concrete <br /> " <br /> ! proposal from the ACLU. <br /> D. Private Property Maintenance - Councilman Williams asked for a further report on progress <br /> 6/23/71 of regulations to control maintenance and upkeep of private property. He said a p~elimi- <br /> " <br /> I ~ nary statement had been made to the Council, and he wondered what the status was now. <br /> t <br /> i: City Manager said contact had been made with two other cities who had made an effort in <br /> 'I this regard. Assistant Manager said responses had been received but only one was doing <br /> i, <br /> " anything more than the city is now doing in terms of enBorcement. The Attorney is now <br /> " <br /> reviewing an ordinance from that city and a report will be forthcoming. fil~, <br /> E. Grasslands Conference - Councilman Teague reported that he had participated in the opening <br /> 6/23/71 of the Grasslands Conference and had found It to be much larger in scope than he had <br /> anticipated. filE! I <br /> F. Opening of First City Bicycle Route - Councilwoman Beal commented that the first city <br /> 6/23/71 bicycle route would open w~thin the next day and asked what had been planned -- whether <br /> legislators would be present, etc. Parks Director did not think anything of this kind <br /> had been p~anned. file <br /> e <br /> 6/28/71 - 'J / <br /> ~ <br />
