The program was speedily adopted and funded by congress to reverse ;1 <br />I' <br />I the unemployment trend and to fill some of the critical needs of local government. " <br />d <br />II Ii <br />Ii If - <br /> Mr. Mills explained that the city is working with theState Department of Employment. <br />Ii A committee has been formed to allocate the money, with membership from the various <br />Ii local governmental bodies. The allocation of $109,000 must be used to employ I: <br />" <br />" persons residing within the city of Eugene, and the remainder of the allocation may " <br />" <br />I: <br />II be used to employ people living outside the City. <br />11 <br />Ii Mr. Roger Dougherty said he represented Mrs. Ruth Shepherd of Emerald Empire Council <br />1: <br />Ii on Aging and HELP Organization, and that it was their impression that older workers <br />I: are included within the priority groups. He explained the work of their agency and <br />" solicited Council support. <br />Ii <br />Ii In answer to Mr. Mohr, Mr. Mills said the City has authority to deviate 10%, to <br />d adjust assignments established for allocation of funds. Beyond that, a request must <br />:i be submitted to the Bureau of Labor for approval. <br />:I <br />I: <br />I: Councilman Mohr commented that he is comrrrrtted as a lobbyist for senior citizens, 1,- <br />,I <br />I' and a priority should be established for unemployed senior citizens. <br />Ii <br />" <br />Ii <br />" Mayor Anderson said the Council is on record as being especially interested in <br />II <br />il the elderly through its Comrrrrttee on Aging. <br />II <br /> Mrs. Campbell asked if the city had a mandatory age for retirement. <br />'I How would <br />!I this work in wi th the aged program. Are the age limi ts 45 to 65?
