Jessie Waldstein, 1270 East 22nd Avenue, requested consideration of 28-foot paving rather
than 36 feet. She said it was a short residential deadend street with structures cl.ose to
the curbline which w.ould create a safety hazard. Also, the narrower width would result in
lower assessment for l.ow-inc.ome property owners. She thought 70% of the property represented
w.ould opp.ose the improvement if they were familiar with the procedure f.or objecting.
Public hearing was cl.osed, no further testim.ony being presented.
Public Works Director called the Council's attenti.on to industrial and commercial zoning
at the south end .of the street which more properly sh.ould be paved t.o 44-foot width. He
stressed the desirability of 36-fo.ot wide paving because .of traffic volumes.
Counci~mqn_Murray questioned the need for 36-foot paving because .of the m.odest residential .
character .of-the short, deadehd.street. In answer to Mrs. Beal, Public W.orks Direct.or
estimated .$2.'00 difference between 28:" and 36'-fo.ot paving .on a fr.ont foot basis. Manager
,.' noted many 50-foot lots in the area and transition to multiple-family h.ousing.
