AFprove <br />B..Commun~ty Development Task Force, Elderly and Handicapped Representation -councilman~ <br />o~ iMurray reported that members of the recently appointed Community Development Task I <br />iForce had asked Council consideration of expanding the Task Force by two members who \ <br />;WOUld be selected from minority populations - elderly, ,handicapped, etc. If the \ <br />:Council decided in favor of the request, he said, app02ntments would have to be made , <br />1quicklY so that the new members could participate in the work of the Task Force now \ <br />I in progress .:\ <br />, \ <br />! Mr. Keller moved seconded by Mr. Murray to increase the Community \ <br />'1 , <br />I Development Task Force by two members as requested. \ <br /> <br />[councilwoman Beal wondered why the increase was needed - whether the work was too \ <br />:heavy or whether representation of the groups mentioned w~s wanted. c~uncilman ~urray <br />~answered that the Community Development Act placed emphas2s upon certa2n populat20ns, ; <br />:particularly low-income people, and the Task Force did not include such people.' \ <br />tcouncilman Williams, in further response to Mrs. Beal, said there was no discussion <br />!with regard to which organizations would be represented, only that the elderly and \ <br />1 I <br />~handicapped should be represented in any decisions made which might impinge upon \ <br />._ , [those groups. _ \ <br /> <br />e !councilwoman Campbell asked if the request was the result Of. a majority vote in the .\ <br />Task Force. Also, why the question had not been raised during the first meetings. <br />She was not convinced the Task Force needed enlarging and said that hearings would <br />be held at which time the different viewpoints could be heard. Councilman Murray \ <br />said the vote in the Task Force was unanimous ,re6ognizing that not everyone present I <br />Ivoted. He continued that it was the intent to involve groups from high' priority areas \ <br />lin the decision making as much as possible.
