EUGENE CITY COUNCIL A^ <br />AGENDA ITEM SUMMARY W <br />Work Session: Eugene Public Library - Year 1 Levy Report <br />Meeting Date: October 23, 2017 <br />Agenda Item Number: A <br />Department: Library, Recreation, and Cultural Services Staff Contact: Connie Bennett <br />www.eugene-orgov Contact Telephone Number: 541-682-5363 <br />ISSUE STATEMENT <br />The purpose of this work session is to report on the first year of the expanded "Library of the <br />Future" services, provided with levy funding. <br />BACKGROUND <br />On November 3, 2015, the City of Eugene voters approved Measure 20-235 to fund expanded <br />Eugene Public Library services for five years beginning in July 2016. The expanded services <br />promised in the levy were in three categories: <br />More hours and access <br />2. More programs for all ages <br />3. More materials and technology <br />Accountability and transparency were built into the levy measure through an annual review by <br />the citizen Library Advisory Board. Library Advisory Board members are: Joe Gonzales (Chair), <br />Kelly Johnson, Beth Walsh (Bethel Branch), Miriam Clark (Sheldon Branch), Lance Keith, Tristan <br />Bentzinger (youth representative), Connie Regali (Friends of the Eugene Public Library), and Julia <br />Whitmore (Eugene Public Library Foundation). <br />RELATED CITY POLICIES <br />This item relates to the following Council Goals: <br />• Accessible and Thriving Culture and Recreation: A community where arts and outdoors <br />are integral to our social and economic well-being and are available to all. <br />• Sustainable Development <br />• Effective and Accountable Municipal Government <br />It also supports the implementation of priority strategies identified in the Library of the Future <br />report. <br />COUNCIL OPTIONS <br />None; this is an informational item. <br />
