<br />e <br /> <br />Mayor Obie determined there is a consensus among council members for two <br />versions to be submitted to voters. He directed the City Attorney's Office to <br />draft the second option. <br /> <br />B. National League of Cities Conference <br /> <br />Mr. Bennett reported that in December he and Ms. Schue attended a conference <br />of the National League of Cities held in Las Vegas. He said he enjoyed the <br />opportunity to work in small groups with representatives from other cities. <br />He said discussions with other representatives reinforced his belief that the <br />City's economic development strategy should take specific steps to identify <br />and support local entrepeneurs. In addition, he said it is important for the <br />counci 1 to recei ve regul ar economi c reports so it wi 11 have a better <br />understanding of the local economy. <br /> <br />Ms. Wooten said it would be useful if Mr. Bennett could attend a Council <br />Committee on Economic Diversification (CCEO) to address those topics in more <br />deta il . <br /> <br />Mr. Gleason said a report on the economic report proposal is scheduled to be <br />given at the next CCEO meeting. <br /> <br />Ms. Schue said she will be submitting a report about the National League of <br />Cities conference to the council. <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />C. Longer Airport Runway <br /> <br />Ms. Bascom reported that Congressman Peter DeFazio, who flies into Eugene <br />regularly, has been told by airline pilots they need a longer runway. <br /> <br />D. Reverse 6th and 7th Avenues <br /> <br />Ms. Bascom said she was told by a landscape architect that the traffic flow on <br />6th and 7th avenues should be reversed when the Ferry Street Bridge project is <br />completed to give a more scenic view of the Hult Center. <br /> <br />E. Alton Baker Park and Amazon Jogging Path Improvements <br /> <br />Ms. Bascom announced there is a group of citizens interested in building a <br />people-mover train in Alton Baker Park. In addition, another citizen is <br />confident he can raise enough private funds to light the Amazon jogging path. <br /> <br />F. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration <br /> <br />Mr. Miller distributed posters of the upcoming celebration beginning January <br />15. He said the estimated cost for the three-day celebration is $4,000 which <br />is under the original projections. <br /> <br />G.
