<br />e <br /> <br />awnings to extend up to seven feet, but City code limited projecting <br />signs to four and one-half feet. She said the amendment would eliminate <br />the need to choose between a four-and-one-half-foot awning with the store <br />name on it or a seven-foot awning without the name; it would apply to the <br />area of the Pedestrian Auto District, from Lincoln to High streets and <br />from 7th to 13th avenues and extending to 18th Avenue on Willamette <br />Street, to the 5th Avenue Special District, and to the West University <br />Business District in the 13th and Alder area. She said the amendment <br />also contained clarifications and non-substantive language changes, <br />adding that both the Downtown Commission and the Planning Commission <br />recommended approval of the amendment. <br /> <br />Mayor Obie opened the public hearing. <br /> <br />Larry Chamberlain, 1535 West 26th Avenue, said he supported the <br />amendment, but in the future, he thought it would be nice if <br />representatives of the sign industry could review the changes prior to <br />the meeting. <br /> <br />Mayor Obie closed the public hearing. <br /> <br />Ms. Ehrman said she was glad to see a problem being corrected quickly. <br />She said the change was a noticeable improvement and she favored doing <br />everything possible to encourage the awning program, adding that she <br />considered it part of the City.s beautification projects. <br /> <br />e <br /> <br />CB 3016--An ordinance concerning Sign Code regulations; amend- <br />ing Sections 8.620, 8.630, 8.635, and 8.640 of the <br />Eugene Code, 1971; repealing Section 8.680 of that <br />code; and declaring an emergency. <br /> <br />Mr. Holmer moved, seconded by Ms. Bascom, that the bill be <br />read the second time by council bill number only, with <br />unanimous consent of the council, and that enactment be <br />considered at this time. Roll call vote; the motion carried <br />unanimously, 7:0. <br /> <br />Council Bill 3016 was read the second time by council bill number only. <br /> <br />Mr. Holmer moved, seconded by Ms. Bascom, that the bill be <br />approved and given final passage. Roll call vote; all <br />councilors present voting aye, the bill was declared passed <br />(and became Ordinance No. 19530). <br /> <br />III. PUBLIC HEARING: ZONING REQUEST (CITY OF EUGENE: WILLOW CREEK <br />ISLANDS) (AZ 87-14) <br /> <br />City Manager Mike Gleason introduced the item.
