and bias response and collaborated with community organizations to <br />publicize the reporting tools available and promote a higher rate of <br />reporting incidents. <br />Community <br />• Awarded the MLK Jr. Community Leadership Award at the conclusion of the <br />NAACP Martin Luther King Jr. Day march. <br />Marginalized Voices in Eugene: The Anti -Discrimination Work Group held <br />several focus groups with multiple communities over two years to gather <br />information and create recommendations published in the report. HRC will <br />continue to use the report to promote recommendations and work toward <br />addressing challenges and barriers with the community. <br />Recommendations to Policy Makers <br />Correspondence on the following topics was submitted to local, state and national <br />policy makers during FY 2017. <br />City Council <br />Protections for Individuals Ordinance: Engaged with the community and <br />held a special HRC meeting to listen to community members interest in <br />establishing Eugene as a Sanctuary City. Two HRC members participated in <br />the Mayor's Ad Hoc Committee on Sanctuary City. <br />Standing Rock Resolution: Submitted a letter to City Council in support of <br />the resolution and local community members who traveled there in support. <br />Recommendations to fill HRC vacancies: Supported recruitment of <br />applicants to apply for HRC Vacancies, reviewed applications and <br />recommended top candidates to council. <br />
