~

.

Ms Schue moved, seconded by Ms. Smith, that the bill be approved
and given final passage. Roll call vote; motion carried unanimously,
with Councilor Obie abstaining. Bill was declared passed and
numbered 18968.

IV.

DESIGNATION OF CENTER SQUARE (memo, resolution distributed)

Mr. Whitlow introduced Dick Reynolds, Executive Director of the Performing Arts
Center. Mr. Reynolds said that the Performing Arts Commission had recently
reviewed a list of approximately 40 possible names for the area encompassing the
Performing Arts Center, the Eugene Conference Center, and the Eugene Hilton
Hotel. He said that the commission voted unanimously to recommend to the
council that the area be named Center Square. Mr. Reynolds noted that, if this
action is taken, the US Post Office has agreed to designation of addresses for
the three buildings as 1, 2, and 3 Center Square, respectively.

Councilors said that while they appreciated the suggestion of the Performing
Arts Commission, they were not certain that the name proposed was the best
possible choice. Councilors requested the opportunity to review the list of
names considered by the Performing Arts Commission.

Mr. Obie moved, seconded by Ms. Schue, to postpone consideration
of adoption of a name for the area encompassing the Performing
Arts Center, the Eugene Conference Center, and the Eugene Hilton
Hotel. Roll call vote; motion carried unanimously.

~ V. CONGRATULATIONS ON PRIMARY ELECTION

Mayor Keller congratulated Councilor Schue on her reelection to the council, and
to Councilor Nominees Holmer, Hansen, and Ball.

Meeting was adjourned to May 24, 1982.
Respectfully submitted,

~~~~
~i:~~~~
City Manager
(Recorded by Darcy Marentette)
MDG:DCM:pm/CM8bl
e
MINUTES--Eugene City Council
May 19, 1982
P ag e 7
