Springfield experienced a 28.9% <br />increase in people whose income levels were below poverty level from 1990-2000, a <br />decrease in the near poor population and a 17.8% increase in the population with <br />income to poverty ratios over 1.25. <br /> <br />Household Type and Poverty Level <br />Census 2000 data indicates that <br />within Eugene, non-family <br />households make up the largest <br />percentage of households below <br />poverty level at 72.7% or 12.56% of <br />total population for whom poverty <br />status is determined. Family <br />households represent 27.3% of the <br />population below poverty level <br />(4.72% out of the total population <br />considered for poverty level). <br />Springfield contrasts with Eugene's <br />household poverty composition. The <br />family households in Springfield <br />make up 59.4% of the households <br />below poverty level, and non-family <br /> <br />Percen'l: of Families with ~999 !ncome below Pove~¥ Level <br /> <br />households at 40.6%. Within the family households in Eugene and Springfield, 8.51% <br />and 19.7% of these are married couple families and 18.9% and 39.8% are other family <br />households, such as single householders. In Eugene, 15.3% of the population below <br />poverty level is single, female head of households grouped primarily in the 25-44 year <br />age group. Springfield's single, female head of household population is double that <br />percentage with 35.1% of the population with income below poverty level.
