She agreed that there was a general feeling in the area that things <br />were getting better. She noted that there were fewer "draggers" on the "gut" <br />and that the activity seemed more controlled. <br /> <br />Councilor Lindberg said that he had followed the work of the task force and felt <br />it was doing an excellent job. He noted that the Vagrancy Task Force was using <br />the work of the IIGut" Task Force as a model for some of its work. <br /> <br />Mayor Keller thanked Ms. Beck for her report. <br /> <br />V. TOUR OF FLEET SERVICES OPERATIONS <br /> <br />Mr. Gleason said that he and Assistant City Manager David Whitlow had recently <br />toured the Fleet Services facility and had been very impressed with the City <br />Shops and with the entire fleet operation. He noted that Fleet Services maintains <br />1,400 pieces of City equipment and saves the City considerable amounts in <br />maintenance costs. He said that the operation had recently rebuilt a number of <br />police cars for one-third the cost of purchasing new vehicles. Mr. Gleason <br />commended the efficiency of the operation. He said that the mechanics themselves <br />were involved in operation of an in-house productivity program.
