He said <br /> that business had been up during the summer, adding that the bureau had 3,000 <br /> visitors in its office. He said a current bureau report showed that the Hult <br /> Center and the Conference Center were responsible for $6,500,000 in business to <br /> the area. He said the total bookings reflected in the June/July/August report <br /> were in excess of $1,000,000. He announced that the 1986 biennial meeting of <br /> the International Conference of Ramanspectroscopy had been booked in Eugene, <br /> with previous meetings held in Bordeaux, France, and Tokyo, Japan. He said <br /> that during this period the bureau had also written 41 proposals for future <br /> businesses, sent out 13 lead sheets, and conducted 6 site tours. He added that <br /> 3,000 letters had been mailed to travel agencies on the new Eugene/Springfield <br /> travel brochure and that 8,800 delegates, with an estimated value of $1,700,000, <br /> had visited Eugene during the month of September. Mr. Hartnett thanked the <br /> Business Assistance Team, the Eugene and Lane chambers of commerce, and the <br /> Oregon Pacific Group for their efforts. He said he also wanted to thank Councilor <br /> Wooten for her efforts toward the Eugene Celebration. <br /> In response to a question by the council, Mr. Hartnett said that the current <br /> projection for bookings in 1983 was $17,000,000, but said there was lag time in <br /> reporting. He said that he would have a report ready in two months. He said <br /> that August had been the best month so far for the Hilton Hotel and that other <br /> hotels had also reported increased bookings. <br /> Councilor Smith commented that the increased room tax in support of the Con- <br /> vention Bureau had apparently been a good investment. Mayor Keller said <br /> e that another world-wide meeting would be held in Eugene next year. He said <br /> that obtaining such bookings was a giant step in the marketing of Eugene. <br /> Mr. Hartnett said he was already getting bookings for the Olympic Scientific <br /> Congress for next summer and that the bureau.s Housing Office was also working <br /> on six major conventions, totaling 10,000 delegates. In response to a <br /> question, Mr. Hartnett said that the bookings were performed as a service <br /> to the conventioneers. <br /> VII. EXCHANGE OF REAL PROPERTY (memo, resolution, map distributed) <br /> Mr. Gleason introduced the agenda item and announced that Don Gilman of the <br /> Public Works Department was present to answer any questions. Mr. Gleason <br /> explained that the resolution would allow the exchange of property for rights- <br /> of-way for sewer pipe projects. <br /> Res.
