-

e

-

Answering questions from councilors, Mr. Shelby said access will be provided
for the handicapped. More vehicle parking spaces will be provided by re-
painting and a minimal expansion of the parking area. Clerestory windows
will provide light in the terminal. The decorating of the interior has not
been detailed, but the use of many materials is planned. The ceiling will
feature laminated wood beams in their natural color. An art consultant is
included in the budget and one percent of the construction cost is budgeted
for art. The additive options include a walkway to the aircraft which is a
foundation for a second story concourse to be added later.

Ms. Schue said lumber is the area's chief industry. The entire building
should reflect lumber's influence and appear to be typically northwestern.

Councilors discussed the plans for some time. They want to build as much as
possible, but they are concerned about costs. Councilors asked Mr. Shelby to
present a breakdown of the costs. Then the Council will meet with the Air-
port Commission to discuss the plans.

Mr. Gleason emphasized that Council action on the project is required now.
No more design work can be done until the Council is ready to fund the whole
project.

At 1 :35, Mqyor Obie adjourned the meeting to January 28, 1985.

(Recorded by Betty Lou Rarick)

TS:jk/blr/1595C

MINUTES--Eugene City Council

January 23, 1985

Page 8
