<br />e <br /> <br />e <br /> <br />-- <br /> <br />M I NUT E S <br /> <br />Eugene City Council <br />Council Chamber--City Hall <br /> <br />May 8, 1 985 <br />Noon <br /> <br />COUNCILORS PRESENT: Cynthia Wooten, Richard Hansen, Debra Ehrman, Jeffrey <br />Miller, Freeman Holmer, Ruth Bascom, Roger Rutan. <br /> <br />COUNCILORS ABSENT: Emily Schue. <br /> <br />The adjourned meeting from May 1, 1985, of the Eugene City Council was called <br />to order by Council President Cynthia Wooten in the absence of Mayor Brian B. <br />Obie. <br /> <br />I. ITEMS FOR MAYOR AND COUNCIL, ANNOUNCEMENTS, APPOINTMENTS, AND AGENDA <br />ADJ USTMENTS <br /> <br />A. Memo Concerning Vending Ordinance <br /> <br />Councilor Holmer noted he had distributed a memo to the Mayor and council <br />outlining his thoughts concerning the street vending ordinance. He asked for <br />feedback. <br /> <br />B. State Department Letter Concerning Central America <br /> <br />Councilor Holmer noted that the council had received copies of a letter sent <br />from the State Department. It responded to the initiative petition approved <br />by the voters asking that military aid to Central America be halted. Coun- <br />cilors asked that staff circulate this letter to those media sources ori- <br />ginally informed by the City when the petition was approved. <br /> <br />C. Chambers Street Underpass <br /> <br />Ms. Bascom called the councilors' attention to the notes in the agenda packet <br />concerning the construction of an underpass at Chambers Street. She explained <br />that the underpass will serve the bike paths which were the very first part of <br />Eugene's bikeway system in 1971. She said the gamble involved in building the <br />original paths has proved well worth the effort in the intervening years. <br /> <br />D. Elderly in Group Homes <br /> <br />Councilor Miller requested a staff report responding to his concern of en- <br />suring that the elderly are not being victimized when living in a group home <br />s i tua t i on . <br /> <br />MINUTES--Eugene City Council <br /> <br />May 8, 1985 <br /> <br />Pa ge 1 <br />
