Acting-in-Capacity Mayor <br /> <br />e Councilor Ehrman thanked Ms. Wooten for acting as mayor in the absence of <br />Mayor Brian Obie, who is returning toward the end of May. <br /> <br />D. Tree and Beautification Commission Meeting <br /> <br />Councilor Bascom reported on the first meeting of the Tree and Beautification <br />Commission on May 14. The meeting was well attended. She repeated the Bicy- <br />cle Committee1s invitation to the councilors to meet on Wednesday, May 29, at <br />7 p.m. at the Jefferson Pool for a tour/inspection of new bike paths. <br /> <br />E. Gypsy Moth Spraying Program <br /> <br />Mr. Rutan provided the council with a progress report on the spraying program <br />in his ward. <br /> <br />F. International Trade Week <br /> <br />e <br /> <br />Ms. Wooten reminded the councilors of the upcoming International Trade Week <br />activities. She asked them to try to attend some of the seminars or workshops <br />on Wednesday, May 22. Mayor Obie will be attending the noon luncheon on that <br />day with the Governor. On the following day, an International Law and Busi- <br />ness seminar is scheduled. Councilor Holmer added that a dinner will be held <br />on Wednesday evening featuring the head of the State Department's Office of <br />International Trade. The main topic will be the social and cultural aspects <br />of international trade. <br /> <br />G. Metropolitan Partnership Status Report <br /> <br />Ms. Wooten asked that a report on the status of the Joint Metropol itan Part- <br />nership be brought before council as soon as possible. <br /> <br />H. Council/4-J Board Meeting <br /> <br />As an aside to the Dunn School issue, Ms. Wooten said the City Council had not <br />met with the Board of Directors of the 4-J School District for a long time. <br />She proposed a future joint meeting, perhaps around a picnic, as a way of dis- <br />cussing common issues. The other councilors agreed. At Mr. Miller's request, <br />it was decided to invite representatives of the Bethel District Board of Dir- <br />ectors as well to that meeting. <br /> <br />e <br /> <br />I. Pole, Pedal, Paddle Award <br /> <br />Mr. Gleason introduced Terry Smith and a team of City athlete-employees who <br />have won the "Pole, Pedal, Paddle Award" for this year. Mr. Smith described <br />the mini-Olympic event held in Bend and then introduced his team members. <br /> <br />J.
