Answering questions from Ms. Wooten, Mr. Gleason agreed there is $17,000 in
e the Municipal Arts Fund. Fourteen thousand dollars will be spent for art for
the Hult Center. The resolution authorizes $3,000 to establish an Art Acqui-
sition Committee for the airport terminal expansion. Mr. Gleason said it is
important to establish an Art Acquisition Committee so that it can work with
the architects. Ms. Wooten suggested the original Art Selection Committee
continue to advise the staff about the acquisition of art works for the Hult
Center.
Mayor Obie asked for a written report on the remaining $3,000 from the Hult
Center acquisition fund and the appointment of the Art Selection Committee
members.
Replying to a question from Ms. Bascom, Mr. Gleason said a council ordinance
requires that one percent of the construction funds for each project except
streets should be spent for art work.
The motion carried unanimously, 6:0.
C. Fleet Fund--Contingency Request (memo, resolution distributed)
City Manager Micheal Gleason introduced the agenda item.
Res. No. 3935--A resolution authorizing the transfer of
contingency appropriations within a given fund to
official budget categories.
e Ms. Wooten moved, seconded by Ms. Schue, to adopt the resolution.
Answering a question from Ms. Ehrman, Finance Director Warren Wong said the
resolution will move $15,000 from the Fleet Fund Contingency to the Public
Works Department to repair communication lines that were cut during construc-
tion of the 6th/7th widening. Mr. Gleason said the original lines were not
deep enough. Although they were cut by the contractor, the City is respon-
sible for the accident. Mr. Gleason does not expect similar accidents to
occur during construction.
The motion carried unanimously, 6:0.
VII. LOCAL VOTERS' PAMPHLET (memo, information distributed)
City Manager Micheal Gleason introduced the agenda item.
Mr. Holmer said councilors had discussed a voters' pamphlet previously during
a work session. He said additional information is needed about how a commit-
tee should be chosen to decide about a pamphlet, how pro and con arguments
should be published, and whether candidates should be charged. Mr. Holmer
wondered if the councilors would like him and the staff to do additional work
on the project.
e
MINUTES--Eugene City Council July 17, 1985 ~~9
