<br /> M I NUT E S <br />- Eugene City Council <br /> City Council Chamber <br /> December 4, 1985 <br /> 12:20 p.m. <br /> COUNCILORS PRESENT: Cynthia Wooten, Richard Hansen, Emily Schue, Freeman <br /> Holmer, Ruth Bascom, Debra Ehrman, Jeff Miller. <br /> COUNCILORS ABSENT: Roger Rutan. <br /> The adjourned meeting from November 25, 1985, of the City Council of the City <br /> of Eugene, Oregon, was called to order by His Honor Mayor Brian B. Obie. <br /> I. ITEMS FROM MAYOR, COUNCIL, AND CITY MANAGER, APPOINTMENTS, ANNOUNCE- <br /> MENTS, AGENDA ADJUSTMENTS <br /> A. Interview with Eugene Development Director <br /> Councilor Wooten asked the staff to arrange a meeting for her with Abe Farkas, <br /> the new Eugene Development Director. <br /> B. Customs Station at Mahlon Sweet Field <br />e Ms. Wooten announced that Congressman Weaver received word from the US Customs <br /> Service this morning that the request for a temporary customs station at <br /> Mahlon Sweet Field was approved. This service at the airport can begin <br /> illlllediately. A decision about permanent service will be made by the Customs <br /> Service after the level of activity at the airport is reviewed in six months. <br /> Ms. Wooten said a customs station is the first step toward an application for <br /> a foreign trade zone designation. The Port of Coos Bay may cooperate with <br /> Eugene in requesting the foreign trade zone designation. Ms. Wooten said the <br /> customs station will provide new opportunities for service. <br /> Mayor Obie said the announcement was very good news. He thanked Ms. Wooten <br /> for her work on the project. <br /> Answering a question from Councilor Holmer, Ms. Wooten said the customs <br /> station will be paid for by users' fees and the Department of the Treasury. <br /> C. Mahlon Sweet Field <br /> Ms. Wooten asked for information about snow removal equipment at Mahlon Sweet <br /> Fi e 1 d.
