M I NUT E S
- Eugene City Council
City Council Chamber
December 18, 1985
12:15 p.m.
COUNCILORS PRESENT: Cynthia Wooten, Emily Schue, Freeman Holmer, Ruth Bascom,
Debra Ehrman, Roger Rutan, Jeff Miller.
COUNCILORS ABSENT: Richard Hansen.
The adjourned meeting from December 16, 1985, of the City Council of the City
of Eugene, Oregon, was called to order by His Honor Brian B. Obie.
I. ITEMS FROM MAYOR AND COUNCIL AND CITY MANAGER
A. Air Pollution in Eugene
Councilor Holmer said an article in The Register-Guard had made him wonder if
the council should be considering ways to alleviate the pollution caused by
e automotive emissions and wood-burning stoves.
Councilor Ehrman shared his concerns.
B. Nominations to Budget Committee (memos distributed)
Councilor Bascom said she has nominated Alan Contreras, who moved into her
ward recently, for another three-year term on the Budget Committee.
Councilor Wooten said she has nominated Shawn Boles for another three-year
term on the Budget Committee.
c. National League of Cities
Councilor Schue reported on the recent National League of Cities meeting in
Seattle. She said the message was loud and clear that cities are on their
own. They will receive very little help from the Federal government. In
some places, the State government may help cities, but she did not think it is
realistic to expect that in Oregon.
D. Recognition of Martin Luther King's Birthday
Councilor Miller suggested the City cooperate with the University of Oregon in
planning a community-wide celebration of Martin Luther King's birthday.
Mr. Miller volunteered to serve on a committee to plan the event. Councilor
Schue suggested the Minority Commission be contacted as to their plans for the
e event.
MINUTES--Eugene City Council December 18, 1985 Page 1
