Council Bill No. 962 - Amending Code re: Human Rights Council - Minorities Commission, Aging Commission, Handicapped Commission, Women's Commission was read the first time by council bill number and title only, there being no council members present requesting that it be read in full. Mr. Bradley wondered if there wasn't some way that the present Human Rights Commission could have been strengthened to make it more compatible to the rights of women. -- Though he is voting for the new ordinance, he is disturbed that more effort was not directed toward preserving the present commission; he feels action may have been taken hastily due to pressures put on the Council. Mr. Murray pointed out that members of the present Commission served on the Women's Task Force Committee and were a part of the proposal-making process. There have therefore been opportunities for input by both the committee members and others regarding preservation of the present Commission. Mr. Murray moved seconded by Mr. Keller that the bill be read the second time by council bill number only, with unanimous consent of the council, and that enactment be considered at this time.
