All Council members present voting aye, the bill was <br /> declared passed and numbered 17478. <br /> Council Bill No. 962 - Amending Code re: Human Rights Council - Minorities <br /> Commission, Aging Commission, Handicapped Commission, <br /> Women's Commission was read the first time by council bill number and title only, <br /> there being no council members present requesting that it be read in full. <br /> Mr. Bradley wondered if there wasn't some way that the present Human Rights Commission <br /> could have been strengthened to make it more compatible to the rights of women. -- <br /> Though he is voting for the new ordinance, he is disturbed that more effort was <br /> not directed toward preserving the present commission; he feels action may have <br /> been taken hastily due to pressures put on the Council. Mr. Murray pointed out <br /> that members of the present Commission served on the Women's Task Force Committee <br /> and were a part of the proposal-making process. There have therefore been <br /> opportunities for input by both the committee members and others regarding preservation <br /> of the present Commission. <br /> Mr. Murray moved seconded by Mr. Keller that the bill be read the second time by <br /> council bill number only, with unanimous consent of the council, and that enactment <br /> be considered at this time. Motion carried unanimously and the bill was read the <br /> second time by council bill number only. <br /> Mr. Murray moved seconded by Mr. Keller that the bill be approved and given final <br /> passage.
