--'-
,
Answering a question from Mr. Lieuallen regarding the data on the computer
e model, Mr. Delay said there was a need to determine what the factors are
in the AQMA in order to determine how to deal with those problems. He
said very little was occurring on a valley~wide basis, and most of what
has been happening was in this area. He reiterated there was a need for
cooperation among all cities in the valley, as Eugene and Springfield
would not be able to solve the problem alone. He noted it would be to
everyone's advantage, including the seed growers, to find out what really
is going on and how to deal with the air problem.
Vern Atkinson, LRAPA, noted how far advanced Eugene has been over cities
like Salem and Portland in their attempt to solve the air quality problem.
However, there is still a long way to go, but other areas have not come
as far as this area.
Assistant Manager noted that the AQMACAC is a subcommittee of the DEQ
and, as such, has no direct ties to the City of Eugene. He suggested
Council could request DEQ to expand the scope of the committee and
allow them to look at some of these other matters, i.e., expanding into
the area of intrusions from the entire valley, and not being held just
to an arbitrary boundary.
It was determined that staff would bring back a motion for
Council to consider at its meeting August 2 regarding expanding
the scope of the committee.
Upon motion duly made, seconded, and passed, the meeting was adjourned to August 2, 1978.
· ~uM-
. ~ /' /{1{
C/ A.
