It was prepared by a subcommittee comprised of Mayor Piercy and Councilors Ortiz, Pryor, and Solomon. The last vision and goals statement was adopted in 2003. BACKGROUND At the City Council's goal-setting/strategic planning retreat on February 25-26, 2005, councilors determined that the 2003-04 vision and goals statement should be revised. A council subcommittee was formed to update the vision and goals statement for full council consideration. Mayor Piercy, Councilor Ortiz, Councilor Pryor, and Councilor Solomon agreed to serve. The subcommittee convened several times to contemplate changes that would best incorporate suggestions made by colleagues at the February retreat. RELATED CITY POLICIES The council's vision and goals statement is considered overarching policy, thereby guiding staff work plans. Either the entire or components of the vision and goals statement are commonly referenced and integrated into documents prepared for council, budget reports, master plans, etc. COUNCIL OPTIONS The council may choose from the following options: 1. Adopt the vision and goals statement as submitted by the council subcommittee 2. Amend the proposed vision and goals statement 3. Continue using the current vision and goals statement CITY MANAGER'S RECOMMENDATION The City Manager recommends adoption of the revised vision and goals statement as submitted.
