Contribution
Specifically, I want to bring a voice to the board that is
passionate of both fiscal responsibility and providing
citizens with the infrastructure and support they need to
live their best lives. I think many hard-line politicos place
themselves firmly in one camp or the other, despite there
being vast middle ground.
The budget committee exists to ensure that Eugene's tax dollars are spent effectively, responding to civic needs and
providing the most value to tax-payers we can.
1 What do you see as the role of the Budget Committee?
Specifically, I want to bring a voice to the board that is passionate of both fiscal responsibility and providing citizens
with the infrastructure and support they need to live their best lives. I think many hard-line politicos place themselves
firmly in one camp or the other, despite there being vast middle ground.
2 What particular contribution do you believe you can make as a member of the Budget Committee?
I currently oversee the budget of my own business.
3 What experience or education have you had in reviewing financial data (budgets, financial statements, etc.)?
I'm not sure which services you're specifically referring to.
To pull something out of the air, it seems odd that the city dictates the price of trash service, but private companies
execute that service. This means there are three different companies' trucks driving through neighborhoods,
sometimes multiple times a week, to do the same thing. Surely this is really inefficient, when this service is a
commodity (it's nearly impossible for one company to provide a better trash service than another) but the companies
are barred from competing on price.
4 What three things can the City of Eugene do to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of service delivery?
I'm currently acting as part of the steering committee to reform the Active Bethel Neighbors.
5 What boards, commissions, or other public or civic groups do you currently serve on or have served on in the past?
Personal Interest
As an individual, I've always considered paying taxes a
civic duty, and taken the time to appreciate what that
money gets for me that many folks take for granted.
Being conscious of that spending makes me passionate
to see it put to good use. Serving on the budget
committee will allow me to help craft a budget that makes
Eugene's citizens' tax dollars work for them.
Interested Applicants
4/2/2018 9:34:12 AM
InterestedApplicants
October 22, 2018, Meeting – Item 4
