The role of the Eugene Budget Committee is to not only serve as a watch dog of every cent spent by the city council,
but to be constantly aware of the value of that cent that is being spent. The role of the Budget Committee is to also
provide long reaching goals for not only the city councilors to consider, but for the city of Eugene to consider as well.
1 What do you see as the role of the Budget Committee?
I have been a political advocate for a few years here in Eugene. I use my skills as a public speaker and a consultant to
help individuals and measures with their campaigns. With this work, I get to hear a lot of individual voters and their
concerns with the city, the state, and the country. Speaking directly with the citizens of Eugene has been a great way
to learn about the various wants and needs of our community. I believe that I can bring what I've learned from the
citizens of the city of Eugene to this committee.
2 What particular contribution do you believe you can make as a member of the Budget Committee?
I currently sit on the Lane Community College Budget Committee. We had an opportunity this last fiscal year to deal
with a $10 million dollar budget gap, which was a result from poor over watch and a proverbial "Kicking the can down
the curb" mentality. This is something I strive to prevent in the future.
3 What experience or education have you had in reviewing financial data (budgets, financial statements, etc.)?
By being a city that Grows, a City that Listens, and a city that is Green. We must continually be aware that Eugene is
growing every day, and to follow those growths when they arise. We must strive to become better communicators,
listening and expressing what we are doing. We must always do what we can to be environmentally conscious as
well, striving for a greener city.
4 What three things can the City of Eugene do to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of service delivery?
I serve the LCC budget committee. I am a founding member of 2 political non-profits, which I served roughly 1 year
each.
5 What boards, commissions, or other public or civic groups do you currently serve on or have served on in the past?
Interested Applicants
4/2/2018 9:34:12 AM
InterestedApplicants
October 22, 2018, Meeting – Item 4
