November 26, 2018, Meeting – Item 3C <br /> <br />EUGENE CITY COUNCIL <br />AGENDA ITEM SUMMARY <br /> <br /> Reappointment to Metropolitan Wastewater Management Commission <br /> Meeting Date: November 26, 2018 Agenda Item Number: 3C Department: Public Works Staff Contact: Dave Breitenstein <br />www.eugene-or.gov Contact Telephone Number: 541-682-8611 <br /> <br />ISSUE STATEMENT This is an action item to reappoint one member to the Metropolitan Wastewater Management Commission to fill a citizen representative position. The current term for the position to be filled will expire on January 31, 2019. <br /> <br />BACKGROUND The purpose of the Metropolitan Wastewater Management Commission is to provide wastewater infrastructure and regional wastewater services on a unified basis for the Eugene-Springfield metropolitan area. The Commission consists of seven voting members, three of whom are appointed by the City of Eugene: one elected official and two citizen members. The Mayor appoints the elected official and nominates the citizen representatives for three-year terms. The City Council then votes on the Mayor's citizen nominations. The MWMC General Manager provided a letter of recommendation for Mr. Walt Meyer. Mr. Meyer has been an active and engaged member of the commission since 2010. The Mayor nominated Mr. Walt Meyer for reappointment. <br /> <br />RELATED CITY POLICIES The Metropolitan Wastewater Management Commission serves as an advisory body to the City Council working under an intergovernmental agreement. <br /> <br /> <br />COUNCIL OPTIONS The City Council has the following options: 1. Appoint the applicant who has been nominated; 2. Appoint someone else; or 3. Seek additional candidates for the position. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />
