Taylor, 682-5510 <br />Subject: External Review of Police Department Complaints <br /> <br />As part of the Police Commission's work to develop a proposal on extemal review of complaints <br />regarding the Police Department, police commissioners met with various parties to solicit input. <br />In early May, Commissioners Tim Laue and Angie Sifuentez met with me (and Chief Lehner) to <br />review the commission's work on external review and to ask for my thoughts and perspectives. <br />During that meeting, I shared my thoughts with them on external review and, as a follow-up to <br />our discussion, I provided Commissioner Laue with a letter that outlined the minimum principles <br />I believe should underlie a complaint and review system, as well as a more detailed description <br />of a proposal on external review. <br /> <br />Attached to this memorandum is a copy of the May 17 letter to Commissioner Laue.
