Chris Pryor, Betty Taylor Councilors Absent: Alan Zelenka Mayor Vinis opened the January 9, 2019, Work Session of the Eugene City Council. 1.WORK SESSION: Municipal Court Presiding JudgeHuman Resources Director Keri Beraldo provided information about the recruitment processand council options relating to the employment of future presiding judges.Council Discussion •Support expressed for keeping the delineation of the council’s three employees as clear aspossible; consulting with current and past judges to determine the best course going forward. •Preference stated for pursuing a salaried model, rather than contracted employee; forming asubcommittee to consider anticipated workload, salary range, position posting and hiring process. •This vacancy offers a timely opportunity for council to review the code sections related to themunicipal court judge. •Support expressed for involvement of entire council in discussing parameters, qualifications,and process. •Questions asked about the cost impacts of transitioning to a salaried model. •Solicitation of Judge Allen’s input would be useful. 2.EXECUTIVE SESSION - Pursuant to ORS 192.660(2)(h) and ORS 192.660(2)(f)The Eugene City Council met in Executive Session held pursuant to ORS 192.660(2)(h) and ORS192.660(2)(f) to discuss current litigation or litigation likely to be filed and information orrecords that are exempt from public inspection..The meeting adjourned at 1:30 p.m. Respectfully submitted, Beth Forrest City Recorder Link to the webcast of this City Council meeting: here.
