My friend and
mentor, Julia Johnson, currently serves on the Human Rights
Commission and encouraged me to pursue these efforts by
participating on a city board or commission. In hearing her speak
of the positive actions for change implemented by the HRC and
other commissions, I am excited to consider how my own
innovation, energy and knowledge of mental health,
homelessness and trauma informed practices may cultivate
additional momentum toward the preservation of the city I love.
F
Human Rights Commission
Britni C. D'Eliso
Community Service / Volunteer
I have volunteered with Food for Lane County, the Eugene
Mission, Teen Challenge, St. Vincent de Paul, and Eugene
Parks and Rec. Additionally, I have provided meals and
care to folks without homes and organized 300+ student
volunteers locally.
Job Experience
Previous work experience includes youth support staff at Hosea
Youth Services, intern at the Eugene Mission, therapist at Lane
County Behavioral Health and my current role in coordinating
mental health services for the SPMI population with Medicaid.
Personal Experience
I have committed my career journey to assisting and empowering
marginalized populations, including those experiencing
homelessness and severe mental illness and to pursuing a
systemic understanding of the complexity of their oppression.
Personal Interest
Since holding a position in local government, I have
witnessed the value and necessity of community
involvement in strategizing solutions for my city. I hope to
broaden my network of like-minded citizens in order to
enhance a systemic view of what is and isn't working,
specifically in relation to those suffering from a severe
mental illness. My hope is to provide education to the
public about the needs and barriers this part of our
population faces, as well as to highlight opportunities for
the local government systems to improve collaboration in
service to those who are marginalized.
Britni D'Eliso
HRC - Round 1 Applications July 8, 2019, Meeting – Item 4
