Throughout my training and practice as a mental health therapist, I have learned to hold space for
conflict and confront inconsistencies and destructive decision making with sensitivity and grace. While
conducting group therapy sessions for individuals who have survived significant trauma, I learned skills
in deescalation and emotional management as I maintained a safe environment for the group process to
function. My propensity for listening does sometimes cause me to be slow to interject my opinions,
which I understand could interfere with what is intended to be a collaborative decision-making process.
However, my undergraduate education in public speaking has equipped me to be poised and intentional
with my contributions to discussion.
4 Describe your specific strengths and weaknesses that would allow you to negotiate group situations in which
members hold strong, differing opinions. Give a specific example if possible.
Britni D'Eliso
HRC - Round 1 Applications July 8, 2019, Meeting – Item 4
