I have learned about the importance of human rights work through advocacy on human rights access
and profiling issues.
1 How has your employment and/or volunteer experience prepared you to do the work of a Human Rights
Commissioner? Please be specific.
I have worked on elected advisory bodies before and can take on projects within such a body and be
productive towards the initiatives of that body.
2 How has your personal experience prepared you to do the work of a Human Rights Commissioner? Please
be specific.
Racial profiling by police; police brutality against the poor; lack of oversight over the local health
systems; health system criminalizing illness, disability, and poverty.
3 What do you see as the three most pressing human rights issues in Eugene? Select the most important and
explain why.
I am a mediator with a great capacity to listen and learn, which overcomes all weaknesses of the sort you
are addressing here.
4 Describe your specific strengths and weaknesses that would allow you to negotiate group situations in which
members hold strong, differing opinions. Give a specific example if possible.
Hamid Michael Hejazi
HRC - Round 1 Applications July 8, 2019, Meeting – Item 4
