I feel very strongly about supportitlgyour preservation of tIle <br />R-l designation in n1Y neighborllood. We IO\fe our neighbors and the quality and livability of our neighborhood. Vle love our house <br />and the.11istoric, nature of the man:y houses near us. O\'er the past 7 years or so, two duplexes have been <br />built on L,incoln AI,Ie)r behind our property, one directly behind, o\vned b)' Mike Gansen and one just <br />next to that one. Before they were built, \ve had complete pri'vacy in our back)'ard, mealling that no one <br />could see into our backyard. No\:v, both duplexes, which are tvvO...stOl)f, look into our backyard. Al1d, of <br />c,ourse, they are both rentals. Vie have suffered l11any difficult elnotions alld gonethrollgh a d.efillite <br />" grieving process ill adjustin.g to. these duplex.es.We h.ad to mo've to a different bedroom in the front of <br />our house because.tlle 110ise 'became so stressful and we couldn't sleep in the mast.erbedroom an)rmore. <br />T'he duplexes have been rent.ed most often to you.ng college stltdents and \ve ha,re had many issu.es vvith <br />loud.ooise and partying happe,ning after bedtillle. We have t\VO daughters, age 4 1/2, so vve hav'e early <br />bedtimes and get up early \\rit.h the girls. Luckily, the o\vners of the duplexes have been fairly <br />responsive when there 11ave been probletTIs,but 1 wish \ve never 11ad to deal \\lith these problenls! '"fhese <br />duplexes are on property' located on Lincoln Street, as you know~ and it is designatedR-2. <br /> <br />On I-ra\vrenceStreet, \ve 11ave Stich \vonderfulneighbors. l~here is a grOut) of neigllbors \vho have lived <br />here for t\venty years or so and ha\'e raised their c,hildren \vho are no\vcollege age (Annie Greenberg & <br />Craig Huber 1538 Lu\vrenceand Jan 'Iv! agner and Chris Rubin, 1563 Lawrence). . There is also a grollp <br />of families \\lith sn1all children who have bee-olne friends and our children will hopefully' gro'N up <br />together (Julie Hohenemeser and Jesse Springer, 1574 [~a\vfence, tvvo ch.ildrell ages 7 alld 4). There are <br />very nice elderly p.cople 011 Otif street \vho'\re been living here for many years. There is a women's bo()k <br />group on Oltf street. 1\11 the neighbors sometimes get together at each oth.ers' homes. 1. am fearful that if <br />our zoning designation is cllanged to R-2 we \villlose the c,11aracter of our neigllborhood tllat I so much <br />appre,ciate. l'iincoln Street is full of rentals, .a.nd l.la\vrence is alnlost full of o\vner..occ<u.pied homes, <br />luan)' of \vhom have been 11ere f()r Inany years. <br /> <br />rrhallk you for con.siderillg IllY testinlony 'via enlail.
