Starting Monday, March 8, Public Works Maintenance crews will begin constructing sidewalk access ramps
at intersections throughout the city. The access ramps, which meet the Americans with Disabilities Act requirements,
feature truncated domes made of either brick or fiberglass and are being constructed at locations requested by citizens
and the Disabilities Committee of the Human Rights Commission. The first intersection to receive access ramps this year
th th th
is on Lincoln Street south of 18 Avenue. Upon completion of these ramps, the sidewalk corridor between 18 and 27
avenues will be fully accessible to people with disabilities. Construction is also scheduled for locations in the university
neighborhood which include travel corridors from 18th to 24th between Agate and Alder. Other locations include 8th and
Lawrence, 11th and Lawrence, Chevy Chase and Boardwalk, and Brae Burn off Willamette.

The Maintenance Division has received these grants for the past several years as part of an ongoing, citywide effort to
increase accessibility in the community.
