MINUTES – Eugene City Council Meeting October 28, 2019 Page 3 <br />Council Discussion: <br />•Councilor Syrett – thanked the Mayor for putting this resolution on the agenda; spoke to theresolution and the crucial need for equitable access to abortion services; noted that CouncilorZelenka had to leave unexpectedly but asked her to convey his support for the resolution. <br />MOTION: Councilor Syrett, seconded by Councilor Taylor, moved that the City of Eugene adopt a resolution declaring the right to safe and legal abortion and affirming the City of Eugene’s commitment to act in support of that right by authorizing the City to participate as an amicus in forthcoming federal lawsuits challenging abortion bans around the country. Council Discussion: <br />•Councilor Syrett – read portions of the resolution. <br />•Mayor Vinis – shared her support for the resolution; talked about how the lack of access toabortion and reproductive services was traumatic for young women when she was in collegeand does not want to see a move backward. <br />VOTE: PASSED 6:0.
