MINUTES <br /> <br /> Eugene City Council <br /> Interviews for Boards, Commissions, and Committees <br /> McNutt Room--Eugene City Hall <br /> <br /> October 23, 2001 <br /> 5:30 p.m. <br /> <br />COUNCILORS PRESENT: Scott Meisner, Pat Fart, Gary Rayor, Gary Pap~, Bonny Bettman. <br />COUNCILORS ABSENT: Nancy Nathanson, Betty Taylor, David Kelly. <br /> <br />INTERVIEWS FOR BOARDS, COMMISSIONS, AND COMMITTEES <br /> <br />In the absence of Council President Taylor and Council Vice President Kelly, Mr. Meisner called <br />the meeting to order. <br /> <br />The City Council interviewed Dwight Souers to fill a vacancy on the Human Rights Commission. <br />Mr. Souers was asked the following questions: <br /> <br /> 1. Why do you want to be a Human Rights Commissioner? What would the community <br /> gain? How would being a commissioner benefit you? <br /> <br /> 2. What, in your opinion, is City government's role in addressing human rights? <br /> <br /> 3. Who do you consider to be the most vulnerable communities in Eugene and why? <br /> <br /> 4. What do you feel are the most important issues facing members of those vulnerable <br /> communities in Eugene and what are your ideas to address those issues? <br /> <br /> 5. Please give an example of a conflict situation you've been in and tell us how you <br /> resolved it. <br /> <br /> 6. What human rights work have you done in the community? <br /> <br /> 7. What's one thing you appreciate about Eugene and what's one thing you find irritating <br /> and would like to change and why? <br /> <br />Following the interview, councilors shared impressions of the candidate. <br /> <br />The meeting adjourned at 5:55 p.m. <br /> <br />Respectfully submitted, <br /> <br />James IR.
