MINUTES <br />Eugene City Council <br />Harris Hall,125 East 8th Avenue <br />Eugene, Oregon 97401 <br />November 20, 2019 <br />12:00 p.m. <br />Councilors Present: Alan Zelenka, Jennifer Yeh, Mike Clark, Chris Pryor <br />Councilors Absent: Betty Taylor, Greg Evans, Emily Semple, Claire Syrett <br />Mayor Vinis opened the November 20, 2019, work session of the Eugene City Council. <br />1. WORK SESSION: 2021 Update <br />Library, Recreation and Cultural Services Director Renee Grube and Oregon 2021 Project Lead <br />Stephanie Scala updated the council on the current progress of plans for Eugene to host the <br />2021 World Track and Field Championships. <br />Discussion <br />o Councilor Yeh - asked whether there would be a public art committee and <br />recommended including someone with a human rights and art history background who <br />can consider the differences between public and private art; asked about how many <br />more murals were planned around the city. <br />o Councilor Zelenka - asked staff to contrast this event with the Olympic Trials event; <br />asked about expected attendance and plans for transportation between the Riverfront <br />Park and Hayward Field as well as transportation challenges that may arise in nearby <br />neighborhoods; asked about the event budget and what the City's portion is expected to <br />be; asked about housing plans. <br />o Councilor Pryor - thought the incident command model would be helpful for the event; <br />asked about the preparation for risks, logistics —especially for food and lodging —and <br />financial considerations in an event of this scale. <br />o Mayor Vinis - expressed excitement about the event and asked how the event might <br />provide an educational opportunity for local schools; asked whether the event could <br />provide an opportunity to experiment with transportation system innovations. <br />The meeting adjourned at 12:39 p.m. <br />Respectfully submitted, <br />,6-t� k"'t <br />Beth Forrest <br />City Recorder <br />(Recorded by Cas Casados) <br />Link to the webcast of this City Council meeting here. <br />MINUTES - Eugene City Council November 20, 2019 Page 1 <br />Work Session <br />
