The Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF) is using grant money from the Western States Fire Managers USFS Grant Program in the form of an <br />ODF Fuels Reduction Crew, landowner Rebates and Cost-Shares to fund eligible residents and community <br />projects that will protect structures and reduce risks of wildfire on private property. <br />Funds are limited and projects have already begun in your area. <br />Call today to schedule an onsite assessment with your local ODF Fire Planning Coordinator! <br />Want to Know More? <br />Please contact the Fire Planning Coordinator at the Western Lane District of the Oregon Department of Forestry with questions or to schedule a site visit. Veneta, OR 97487 <br />Healthy Forests <br />•Retain native, fireresistant trees andshrubs. <br />•Mimic healthy forest disturb- <br />ance previously provided natu-rally by surface fires. <br />•Remove small, stunted, dead anddisease prone trees <br />•Clear understory invasivespecies. <br />•Reduce potential for forest firesand fire spread rate by thinningunderstory. <br />•Improve resiliency to insects &diseases. <br />It’s Just Not Possible To: <br />•Remove Large DeadTrees (Diameter over <br />10 inches). <br />•Remove tree limbs overhang-ing houses or work where thereis a potential to damage hous-es, fences or other personalproperty. <br />•Work on your neighbors prop-erty without their interest andconsent. <br />•Provide compensation forwork already completed. <br />Firewise Communities <br />•Organized efforts fromthe community aremore effective in reducing wild-fire hazards. <br />•Firewise helps communitiesorganize around wildfireprotection & prevention goals. <br />•Firewise creates connectionswith local, regional, state, andfederal fire responseorganizations. <br />•http://www.firewise.org <br />Grant Matching Dollars for <br />Landowner Cost Share & <br />Rebate Projects <br />•Cost share and rebatefunding is available tooffset some of the costs of defen-sible space and cost-share (awayfrom structures) projects usingforest restoration science andtechniques, possibly includingprescribed burning. <br />•Landowners can hire a contrac-tor, complete the project them-selves, or a combination of both. <br />•Ten year maintenance is required <br />Fuels Crew Projects <br />•All projects completedby an Oregon Depart-ment of Forestry FuelsReduction crew are at no cost to <br />the landowner. <br />•Create a 100+ foot safety bufferusing healthy forest techniques toprotect your home, surroundingstructures and fire fighters(defensible space). <br />•Create 20 foot buffers alongdriveways and shared roads allowing fire engines to safely approach the house. <br />•Ten year maintenance is re- <br />quired <br />ATTACHMENT B <br />February 19, 2020, Work Session – Item 2
